I WAS EVACUATED TO THE PHILLIPINES AND THEN TO FORT SAM HOUSTON , BROOKE ARMY HOSPITAL AND ENDED UP A FORT RUCKER ALABAMA. I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW A LOT OF THE GUYS IN THE COMPANY SINCE WE WERE IN THE FIELD MOST OF THE TIME I WAS THERE. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE THAT MY REMEMBERS ME OR REMEMBERS WHEN I GOT BLOWN UP. WHEN I WAS IN VIET NAM WE WERE IN PHU VIN. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO AUGUST SINCE NEW ORLEANS IS MY HOMETOWN. SORRY IF I GAVE YOU LONG STORY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. YOURS IN PATRIOTISM. GEORGE VILLANUEVA

LARRY HAWKINS - 16 Nov 02 -
Bill, First of all, thank you and your associates for the effort and time you have put into this site.

My name is Larry Hawkins, I served with the 1/4 Cav from July , 5 1967 to July 5, 1968. Dates I'll never forget, as my birthday is July 5. My 20th year was spend in Viet Nam. I live in California, been married 32 years, spend my off time sailing on San Francisco Bay. You can contact me at tackesailors@inreach.com, I've got a little web site at http://www.tackesailors.com

The first 3 months of duty were spent as the 1/4 Cavs combat photographer I was chosen out of a line the first day I arrived in Phu Loi and was told I was the new photographer and writer for the Stars and Stripes ?????? Go figure).

I was later assigned to B Troop 1st Squad 1st Platoon where I served for seven months. I was Captain Connleys' driver for a time, as I recall, (Hello Sir) and also drove for the platoonleader. I had been in county about 7 or 8 months before Captain Connley and several others joined B Troop. The mind goes fuzzy as after the battle in early February at An My only 6 of the original 26 squad members remained. I often wonder what happened to the other 20. A few I know their fate. The names of most I served with, I regret to say, I have forgotten or possibly regressed. Most I remember by nickname. If the medic for B Troop during this time (I think we called him "Doc") is out there give us a shout.

To fill in the missing numbers in the After Action Report on An My (today is the first day I knew the name of that damned place) it was B-1-1-1/4 Cav. We were actually on stand down in Phu Loi when just before sunrise we were summoned to assist and bring back an ambush patrol that was pinned down by sniper fire, my memory recalls the battle lasted three days. After an injury I was chosen/condemned ( a story I will relate someday) by Col Barney "The Arkansas Bear" Forbes to be his driver (Dagroon Bravo 5 Kilo). That lasted a couple of months until DROS.

When I first found this site today I couldn't hold back the tears, it brought back a lot, I served with good men I respect you all, God Speed.
